We undertook the 375-mile trip down the Parks Highway to Anchorage this week. During our stay, we were able to hang out with some friends from Georgia (they are stationed down in Anchorage), catch the museum, and do some Christmas shopping.
One nice thing about Anchorage is the fact that they have many comforts of the Lower 48 - stores like Target, Outback Steak House, IHOP, Best Buy, a couple of actual malls... You get the idea.
The Anchorage Museum of Natural History had an exhibit featuring the life work of Andy Warhol. Suffice it to say that the kids did not, in fact, enjoy the exhibit. Comments included (but were not limited to): 'Dad, this is boring' ... 'Why is he filming a guy EATING?' ... 'I don't like this' ... 'Wigs kinda scare me.' I was thoroughly chastised for taking pictures of the kids at the 'dress-up' section. Hopefully the Mastadon exhibit coming next month will be a little more interesting for the kiddos.
There is a section of the museum called the 'Imaginarium' - a great place with many hands-on activities for the kids. They demonstrate different facets of physics principles, or just have a bunch of moving parts. Either way, they are fun for kids of all ages!
